Safehaven Cooking
At 3pm on Saturday 25 September, the 4 volunteer cooks for the Safehaven project gathered in the kitchen of the Church hall to prepare the first meal of term!
Luckily there had been a lot prayer for us (!) – None of us had cooked in the kitchen before, and there recently had been troubles with the oven – we needed God to provide for us, keep us in check and to keep us on time.
After popping out quickly to get the 15kg of apples for the Crumble from Morrison’s we set to work, chopping and peeling for over an hour! Slowly but surely the Turkey Curry, Vegetable Casserole and Apple and Blackberry Crumble came together. With the double oven blasting and all the hobs on, the kitchen heated up along with the tempo (and music) as 6pm swiftly came round!
It was such a pleasure (and a LOT of fun) to cook for the 63 guests who attended the evening, and to put together 10 take-away meals. I’m so excited for another opportunity to serve the Safehaven project by cooking, and would HIGHLY recommend getting involved with the project – makes the Saturday night WAY more enjoyable.
